I want to let you know about my latest challenge in the strange world of strongman competitions. On Saturday, August 16, 2003, I finished in third place in the Amateur Heavyweight Class at the Northeast Wisconsin Strongman Challange. I earned a $100 check for my efforts (1st place got $500 and 2nd place got $250). Overall, I was very pleased with my performance. I won two of the six events: the Silver Dollar Deadlift (810lbs -- I tried 900lbs just for the heck of it, even though I didn't need it to win, but missed) and the Hercules Hold (4.7 seconds holding the weight of two cars). I also tied for 1st in the Incline Log Press (15 reps at 250lbs). I wanted to finish in the top two competitors, which would have qualified me for the 2003 National Amateur Strongman Society National Championships in Myrtle Beach in October, but I came up a little short. I will have one more chance to qualify for nationals at a competition on September 20th in Iowa, so I will keep you posted. Take care and stay in touch.
